As an online game and mmo nerd, I’ve always taken a liking into buying online game guides. One of the most anticipated games I waited for was The Secret World, developed by Funcom. I was in on all the beta weekends/tests and was interested by the game’s conspiracies, puzzles and skill wheel. With over 500 abilities to choose from, players gain the freedom to pick and choose which abilities or weapons they wanted to equip. With all these possibilities given to me, it’s no surprise why I had the option to choose these abilities and use it in my skill rotations. Unfortunately I found out very quickly why looking for the right skill rotation that worked for me took time. In combat my character wasn’t doing well as I had hoped; instead of discharging waves of energy blasts at my enemy, I was spending more time running away because of my selected skills.
This is where my recommendation comes in; Killer Guides. I’ve been their customer since 2011 buying their PDF game guides for the price of $29.99 USD. Recently, I bought their TERA Berserker Guide literally jam packed with information. I was impressed by the quality of the guide so this time, when Killer Guides announced they are offering The Secret World guides via their newsletter, I jumped right in.
For starters the guide was available before the release date of the game. This is The Secret World Strategy Manual hosting over 100 pages of content in-game strategies. The guide is divided into several chapters such as: Introduction, transcribing or crafting, and most importantly, how to max out your Skill Wheel. The main reason why I bought this guide was because I wanted to know the best builds for PvE and PvP. As many of you know, a Skill Wheel is an interesting way of gaining abilities; every faction member can learn everything. Instead of listing out all the abilities and their description, the guide goes into detail how to use these abilities in combat. We all know in mmo’s, we are always looking for the most effective rotation with the skills we currently have and the author in the guide does just that.
After reading the content, I went ahead and tested these ‘proven’ methods. I can honestly say I am impressed with the recommended skill rotations. My character was doing better plus, although I had not mentioned transcribing, my character wield a powerful hammer with additional stats. By the end of the day, I racked in anima and skill points quicker and quite frankly, more easily when compared to before.
Once again I was very happy the strategies provided by Killer Guides worked like a charm. Therefore, I highly suggest players to take a look at the secret world bundle which includes this strategy guide and two other guides as well.
This is a brief guide to the Secret World MMO developed by Funcom. Including in the post is the most up-to-date information about the game and its mechanics. Some of the information is written by a well established author who wrote The Secret World Leveling Book. If you’re a player look for something different in an MMO, then I recommend this game for you!
Today we’re going to do a little review, or first impressions of The Secret World beta. The Secret World is set in modern day, and it’s an MMO RPG, and it’s gonna be released June 19th this year.
There are three factions in The Secret World. The first one is the Templars and they are based in London, the next one is the Illuminati and they’re based in New York City, and the third one is the Dragon and they are based in South Korea. Now, at the very beginning you actually have to choose your faction, but for the beta you can only play as the Templars, which is in London, so that’s the one I had to choose.
Now, once you’ve gone and customized your character and have done all that, you will see a short cut scene which basically shows how you obtained your power, because everyone in this game has a certain power, and you can use it in all different ways. Once you found out how you obtained your power and all that, you get invited to the faction of which one you’ve chosen.
You start off basically with all these other new recruits trying to work out what the hell to do with your power and all that kind of stuff. Now, with this game they actually don’t have a leveling system, because they feel it restricts people and they don’t feel that they can go off and actually choose to do what they want to do. Instead of getting a leveling system, you get points that you can spend on different skills. With weapons and all that kind of stuff, you can swap weapons whenever you want and put skills into that. It’s a really good system as well, because if you are getting bored using my certain weapon, you can just go buy another one or buy find another one and use that instead.
You actually have to choose which weapon you want to start off with at the beginning. Now, this can be stuff like duel pistols, assault rifle, or shotgun. But if you don’t want to use a firearm, you can actually go and use powers, such as element, or blood powers or chaos for your best secret world leveling guide. And also, you can use stuff like katana and other melee weapons as well. As I explained before, what decision you make here is not final. You can go and change weapons later on and do that kind of stuff, so don’t get too worried about it if you want to try or swap between weapons and all that kind of stuff. Just choose you favorite one now and you can swap it later on.
Some of the known enemies for this game is going to be demons, vampires and zombies. In the beta weekend like this one it was set in a town called Kingsmith which is being overrun by zombies, so pretty much this beta was only zombies, but there were all different types, so it was really fun to go around killing them.
About the cut scenes in the secret world beta. So far in the whole game, my character has never spoken at all in any cut scene, so I don’t know if they’re going to add a voice in for that or if it’s just sort of their way of making it feel like you can sort of, I don’t know, personalize it a little bit more instead of just hearing someone else talk and getting used to that voice.
TSW guide to Combat is sort of similar that you’d see in other MMOs, but there’s also a really cool mechanic that you don’t actually have to be targeted onto an enemy to, like fire a shotgun for example. You can just shoot it aimlessly, which I think sort of works when you’re using the firearms, because you don’t always want to target an individual person or zombie or anything like that sometimes when you are firing. You may just want to fire at the pack, so you can do that if you want to. But there’s still the option to target individual creatures and monsters if you want to.
The secret world is going to be using a pay-to-play model, so if you want to actually get this game in June 19th, you’re going to have to pay every month to play it.
I didn’t notice too many server issues, like logging in so far in the beta. That was all fine, but on the first day when I logged in it was a little bit laggy, but obviously that’s due to increased number of people trying to get into this beta. But towards the end, so like today when I was playing it, it was actually a lot easier to get into and wasn’t as laggy as before, so obviously less people on.
I really like the atmosphere sort of thing, because since it’s Open World, you can have many people doing the same quest. You can all go help each other, even if you don’t actually talk to them or are in a guild with them or anything like that. For one instance, there was one creature I couldn’t kill, and someone else turned up and we just both took it on and so we both beat the quest.
But if you are looking for a more modern MMO, where you can use guns, powers and all that kind of stuff, the secret world guide probably would be a good MMO to go with. But if you’re more into other MMOs, and not really into this, or don’t like zombies, vampires or demons, or taking any of those kinds of monsters on, you probably won’t like this game.
In this post, I cover a brief introduction to the Templar class in TSW. Also, I’ve written a Secret World walkthrough guide for you all to take a look at. It includes things such as missions and objectives you need to achieve as a Templar. This guide is great for those just stating out in the game!
The Secret World Society of the Templar. Centered in Europe and head quartered in London, these warriors have devoted their beings to fighting the rising darkness. As an ancient order, the Templars don’t bother with secrecy; they are very open about their cause. Combining modern-day firearms with ancient magic, Templar crusaders are prepared to engage any and all mythical threats to the human race with extreme prejudice. No one else in the Secret World guide is better at front-line combat than the Templar.
Reading more about the Illuminati, this class is further discussed in The Secret World leveling book. This book highlights all the factions in the game including their objectives, missions and other topics are discussed.
The Secret World Society of the Illuminati. Based primarily in the United States, especially in New York City, it is by far the wealthiest organization in the world. While the Templar sticks to the old ways, the Illuminati looks to the future, arming its agents with the most state-of-the-art military-grade armaments money can buy. The Illuminati is more subtle in its methods as well, but it takes a balanced approach to combat overall. For the secret world leveling, it can field an army to fight an upfront battle, or send in a small team of covert agents. Alternatively, if it’s decided that the best course of action is to have someone else to do the fighting, then so be it; they’ve got CEOs and Senators eating out of their hands and ready to provide. The Illuminati’s philosophy is to get the job done, and they’ll do so by any means necessary.
The below article is based on the Dragon, one of the playable classes in The Secret World. The Dragon, unlike the other two factions prefer to wait for the right moment to strike. Following the methods of the Art of Chaos, this Secret World e-book covers this faction and the rest more in-depth.
The Secret World Society of the Dragon. Found throughout Asia and centered in Seoul, Korea, it may very well be the most mysterious of the three. Like the Templar, it is an ancient conspiracy whose members prefer to fight using old methods passed down through the ages, often involving swords and forgotten sorceries. However, the Dragon prefers to take a hands-off approach in its methodology. Its members stick to shadows and use trickery, lies and deception to manipulate all those around them into doing their bidding. Stealth is the order of the day, and the Dragon acts in such a way that nobody knows it was ever involved.
Due to the nature of ability system in the Secret World, where the player can combine or have thousands and thousands of different combinations of abilities. It’s really important that players have the gear to really support the abilities that they’re playing with. If you’re playing as a healer, you want healer stats on your gear, and if your build revolves around critical hitting, you want critical hit chance on your gear. This crafting system is a support tool for the players as they’re playing through the game. It is called Transcribing, and it’s basically taking the item, breaking it down, learning how it works, then putting it back together with the stats that you want on the item.
For example, if you want to play with hammers. Your build revolves around critical hits and penetrating strikes, so you want that type of stats on your gear. You have one hammer but it doesn’t have any of the stats you want on it. What you have to do is to follow the process of increasing the quality level of this hammer but also adding those stats to it. Next, you have to open up the Transcribing window, and break down the hammer by pull it in the transcribing box and disassemble it.
Then you will get some materials laid out in the shapes of a hammer. The shapes that you form here in this grid define the item type, and the type of materials define what sort of stat goes on that item. You are going to take this metal, called sacred metal. As I said before, you want to upgrade the quality level of this hammer so you have to refine this metal by putting a stack of it in, assembling it, and out comes pure metal. Pure metal is a better form of metal, far better than sacred metal. You’re going to put this in your inventory. Luckily enough, you have looted some pure metal from before, so now you’re going to create an upgraded version of the hammer from putting all the pure metal back in in the shape of a hammer, and you have to add a weapon assembly kit to increase the quality level of the hammer. As you hit assemble, we get a blue rare hammer with increased weapon powers. Now you have a really good hammer, but you still don’t have the crit rating and the penetration rating that you want on the item.
All items in the Secret World guide consist of multiple items; prefixes, cores, and suffixes. Players can create these different items by themselves. What you’re going to do now is to create a prefix, which has penetration rating and critical rating, the important stats for your hammers. What you have to do is to add material that increases penetration rating and material that increases critical rating. You put it in the shape of a prefix. You’re going to add the prefix assembly kit, because that’s what we’re making, and then hit assemble. Out comes a glyph of ferocity. That glyph is the prefix item, and this item you can combine with many different items, any different core, any different shocker or weapon type, put this in an inventory, and combine it with the hammer that you already made and upgraded. When you hit assemble, you get a fierce hammer. You see the name changes. It has really good weapon power having the stats, the critical rating and the penetration rating that you wanted. Keep in mind that, the better your weapon is, the faster your secret world leveling will be.
This is a really nice support tool for the players to get the right kind of stats on the item that they want. It’s made to be able to supplement their build to sort of really support the build that they’re running with. Having a healthy economy in MMO is really important, and transcribing will be a crucial part of the economy in the game since players can create parts of an item or create full items, and they can trade with each other. They can sell them on the trade posts or give it to their friends if they want to be nice.
Transcribing in The Secret World can be further read at this website which offers a literal step-by-step guide. The Secret World reference manual contains a full list of transcribed items along with how to use the correct prefixes and suffixes to enhance your weaponry.
Today we are going to show you the mission system in the Secret World Society. Keep in mind that this game is still in development, and need some dental work. But right now the player can receive a mission. The first objective of the mission is to pick up the Arashi tactical map. It is located on the hood of a car. This is the map over the island that they talked about in this country. The Arashi Corporation has located these points of interest and marked them on the players map. This will provide very useful information later in the dungeon. Right now we’re going to venture forth, and since this is a modern game set in modern times, we travel in style in kick ass helicopters.
We’re going to go ahead and load right into the instance now, and this is where we’ll spend a majority of our time in the demo. Now as you guys may know, Funcom is the company that made Age of Conan. They have a reputation for creating fantastic graphics in the MMO space. For the Secret World leveling guide, they’re taking it even a step further. They have amazing environments in their engine. Huge visual fidelity, you can see the modern day setting is firmly rooted by things like the helicopters, the lights, we have the lighthouse up at the top with the light beam going down, and they have these amazing affects that they can create in the engine. It really roots the game in the modern day world.
In addition to the fact that they’re rooting the game through the visuals in the modern day world, they’re also doing this through the way that we communicate with the players. Obviously, in the real world players get communication via radio, cell phone, things like that. It’s the same here. As players progress through the dungeon they’ll receive information and updates from their helicopter pilot as they go.
With us here today we have a group of five players that focuses on this different aspect on the combat in Secret World. We have the mascot with a sledgehammer. He will play the role as a tank this dungeon run. He’s brought a lot of armor mitigation and agro management abilities. The girl in the pink trench coat will function as the healer in this run. She brought a lot of blood magic and will try to keep this group alive. The guy with the assault rifle has brought some high powered bullet shots. He’s also brought some grenades and will function as a sort of range DPS character with some crowd controlling. The guy on the right is focusing on magic, the elementless magic, which allows him to control and shoot fire. Here a character is wielding a sledgehammer, but it’s focusing more on the high damage output that the hammer provides. Now this group is going to venture forth and investigate this place.
One of the challenges in dungeon design is how much trash. How much do they want to annoy players with trash. They decided that when they were going to make dungeons for The Secret World, they’d make sure that any trash combat they encountered was only there for a reason. They have a Draug and several zombies. That’s a great screenshot. Fantastic. The player is going to go into combat with these guys. Obviously, this teaches the players that when they encounter Draug, they encounter zombies. The zombies work for the Draug. In case you don’t know what the Draug are, actually this is all taught into the lore with the myths and legends, in the real world Draug are actually the spirits of drowned Vikings that come back to haunt people. This also ties into the game.
About teaching players different mechanics, whenever they do that it’s not only true for this isolated incident, but it’s true for the whole game. Whenever players in The Secret World guide find electricity on water it means that it’s a bad thing, because when they stand in this water, they take a massive amount of damage. They stay away from that as they’re going to fight this Draug sorceress.
This sorceress is protecting herself with this Draug barrier. The players can bring certain effects to counter this magic and remove that barrier. She also summons this thunder cloud that the players need to get away from, which provides a particular challenge because of the electrified water. They need to stay away from that, and the thunder cloud at the same time. Another things for teaching players mechanics, If the players linger close to this Draug pod for too long, it will start to pulse and eventually erupt, for a massive amount of damage and a knock back. But, if the players are quick to damage them down before they are able to explode, they are safe and sound.
There are another word on Draug females. These guys are the mothers of the Draug race. They’re sole purpose in living is actually to reproduce. What they do is take zombies, they mutate them, and eventually the zombies turn into Draug themselves.
For further reading about The Secret World, this website offers a complete The Secret World unofficial book for players to reference. Missions will be covered more in-depth.
The Secret World e-book provides players with a walkthrough about the bosses featured in The Secret World. Not only will players read through recommended strategies and tactics, players can customize and ultimately build a solid battle build in the game.
Varangian. Varangian is one of the warrior cast of the Draug. He’s leading them in the war effort against the humans on Solomon Island. The name itself, the Varangian, if you were to look that up you would find out that the Varangians were actually a group of Vikings who were shipwrecked on the coast of Russia over 1,000 years ago. They ended up fighting as mercenaries in wars there. It all ties together, and you’ll find out how that’s connected to the game when we go into further detail, during the game.
Here we are the first dungeon and the first boss in The Secret World. The mechanics of the fight are fairly simple. At certain times, the Varangian will wipe his attack in charge of random people in the group. At these points it’s really important that the tank is on the ball and you use assault abilities to regain the fight. Also, from time to time he submerges himself in the water and summons zombies. Again, the Draug controls the zombies. When he does this it’s really important that the players damage down the zombies to regain control of the fight. Right now he’s realizing that he’s losing the battle so he’s retreating to an area where he feels safer. He’s throwing some zombies in the way to slow the players down. The players just need to take those down and follow him, and see where he’s going.
Quick note on the world design. The Varangian create a location for himself. The water within that location is electrified just like in the first fight. Players have been taught a mechanic earlier in the game, and now they’re going to have top remember to use that mechanic again. The players will need to jump on containers and use them to keep attacking this guy because he’s in a safe zone. But, he has a trick up his sleeve. He also has the ability to put electricity on these containers. The players really need to watch where they’re standing, adopt to their surrounding, while they’re damaging this guy and try to get him down.
Back to the secret world guide, we’ve been moving through this progressively towards aberrant psychic signature and we’re going to move forward and try to find out what that is. Here we are in the shadow of the Polaris itself, right at the base of the ship. The zombies in this area, it’s worth pointing out, they’re the former crew of the Polaris. These guys were manning the ship when it disappeared. The Draug resurrected them and used them to bring the ship to this coastline. As we move now, we’re going to progress deeper into the belly of the beast. Martin is going to say a few words about progression.
We’re getting close to the source of the psychic signature now. We’re going to take a look at what that is. This is the Primordial Dwell. This is the source of the signature. This is also the mastermind behind the invasion of Solomon Island, that players have been trying to find the answers about. What the players need to do here is use every single element that they’ve learned about throughout the dungeon, comes back in this fight here, and they’ll need to use everything that they’ve learned. He’s protected in this magical barrier that the players need to deal with. In addition to that, he spawns poisonous ink on the ground that the players need to stay away from. Here we also need the mobile pod carriers, where they actually have Draug pods mounted to zombies, and they will follow the players around. If the players don’t deal with them, they will explode next to them, deal a lot of damage, and knock them back. The best way to do this is either by doing lots of damage quickly, or crowd control and keep them away from the player. In addition to this, he also has these small octo-pods that will spawn in packs of three and four. Same with these guys. You really need to damage them down quickly or crowd control them as you’re doing damage to the boss in order to be successful.
It is pretty chaotic fighting this guy. Stuff going everywhere. We took down the primordial dweller. We managed to finish that fight, and it’s time to head out back into our helicopter, and head back to safety.
This is a basic overview of the game, The Secret World developed by FunCom. Within this general outline, you can read about the mechanics of the game, what to expect or how to solve each conspiracy. Not only that this outline provides you with a basic idea of the game, this secret world manual also does the same.
“Everything is true.” These are the arc words for The Secret World, Funcom’s conspiracy-laden MMORPG. This maxim will quickly become apparent to you at the beginning, when your character wakes up to find that he/she commands inhuman power never thought possible before. From there, you’ll set off on a globe-trotting adventure, from New York to Korea to the lost city of Atlantis itself, uncovering the truth in a world where it’s impossible to discern between myth and reality. Along the way, you’ll encounter phantoms, demons, monsters and other indescribable horrors man was not meant to know.
The first thing to be said about The Secret World gameplay is that there are no restrictive character classes or levels. Unlike many MMORPGs, succeeding in The Secret World is not going to depend on how much time you’ve invested into the game, but on how skillfully you play it. You’ll acquire a variety of powers and abilities during your travels. These include magical spells such as the ever-popular fireball, shooting techniques for various guns, and special attacks for melee weapons like swords. Abilities come in active and passive flavors, and it’s up to you to find what play style suits you by equipping seven of each.
Combat plays a big role in The Secret World guide, as you’ll be fighting a lot of inhuman entities while completing your missions. However, missions won’t be found just anywhere, for few people are truly aware of what’s going on in the world. If you want to have any chance of scratching the surface, then you’ll need to join one of three secret societies. These include the crusading Templars, the ambitious Illuminati and the enigmatic Dragon. These organizations have the answers you seek, the training you’ll need, and they’ll be happy provide both, but only if you devote yourself to their causes. Joining a faction is a required choice that will have a permanent effect on the story you follow, so choose carefully.
In addition to team-played missions against the environment, The Secret World gameplay also boasts plentiful player-versus-player content in many forms. Battlefields are one type, involving three-team renditions of popular multiplayer matches like capture-the-flag and king-of-the-hill. Meanwhile, if you yearn for something more large-scale, then the Warzones are just what you need, pitting hundreds of players against each other at once as they seize territory for their respective factions! Alternatively, if you want to do something a little more casual and less organized, then go no further than one of the many free-for-all fight clubs that are scattered all over the world.
A world of intrigue awaits the curious, and a taste for something different awaits the MMORPG genre in The Secret World. Already now, there’s a multitude of fan sites – so read up and be prepared when the game goes live.
Below is a written post about skills and puzzles in The Secret World. In the secret world strategy book, there are also tips, hints and tricks how to use the plethora of abilities presented in the secret word.
Other tools that the Agartha earth provides the player in the Secret World Skills system. It opens up these anima wells, and what that provides the player to do is to access the anima magic, in particular this skill wheel. In this skill wheel we have over 500 unique abilities, and the player can access them all, learn them all, and master them all. Every single cell has several abilities. In here you find everything from shotguns to assault rifle powers, to swords, to fist weapons, to chaos magic, to blood magic, a lot of cool abilities. What the player learned in the first fight was that ranged characters were at an advantage. They were able to stay away from the water, and damage the boss from afar. Whenever players earn skill points, they are used to purchase abilities here.
Here is an example of adapting abilities. The hammer player is removing his hammer abilities and equipping elementless abilities. Now He can nuke and shoot fireballs, and send lightning bolts from afar. This is a really important aspect in The Secret World guide. It’s adapting to the place style. You’re not locked down to a role. You’re faced with challenges all the time, but you have to be versatile and figure out a way to overcome that challenge that way that you feel like you want to.
We will talk a bit about how The Secret World are keeping the puzzles and mystery element all the way through. Sometimes players have stumbled upon a green glowing plate which might contain something useful to them. When they attempt to open it, they discover there’s a code locking it off. They require a code. They’re asking players to think outside the box, just like they did in the outside world. In this case, we’re literally asking them to think outside the box because on the edge of the container is a shipment number, and players can go to their website external to the game, look up that shipping number, find out what was inside that container, and then find out the code that they can use to unlock that chest in the game. We’re not going to spoil what’s inside that chest because we think it’s a cool surprise for players later on, but now we’re going to move on from this point.
There’s two forms of progression in the Secret World leveling. You have the vertical progression and the horizontal progression. The vertical progression comes in forms of getting better items. Getting better items makes you stronger. They make you better at doing damage, better at healing, better at crowd controlling, better at litigating armor, but in addition to that they have the horizontal progression. The horizontal progression is getting all the skills. Mastering all the skills doesn’t necessarily make you stronger, but you’re more versatile. Whenever you’re faced with a challenge, you have more options of how to overcome that challenge.
